Empathy? Perhaps. Forgiveness? Maybe. Amnesty? Not a chance.

Why there must be consequences for the Covid response

There has been a lot already said about an article published in The Atlantic on 31 October titled Let’s Declare A Pandemic Amnesty. I wrote about it elsewhere as well, and I will try to keep this brief. In the article, the author intimates that people have behaved the way they have over the past almost three years due to being “in the dark” and messages changing. While I can understand at the beginning that many were perhaps confused, definitely bombarded with “official” messaging, and intentionally instilled with fear, continuing in that state was far from necessary.

Those of the general public, if they would just have opened their eyes, would easily have seen through the narrative. The facade was rather thin, and the only way most continued in it was with eyes closed and fingers in ears shouting, as did the author’s child, “social distancing! social distancing!” a la toddler tantrum. Those of us with our eyes open, however, saw through all of the pandemic peddling from the beginning, yet we were castigated as crazy, conspiracy theorists, science-deniers, and worse. There were times I tried to warn people, and in return received nothing but insult. People chose to remain ignorant, whether through unmitigated belief in The Science™, laziness, or other excuse, that ignorance was willful. What’s more, there are many still wallowing in their misinformed choices. Just two days ago I saw a couple riding bicycles outside, and the woman was donning a lovely yellow kerchief wrapped around her mouth and nose, as if to ward off the scary Covid monster hiding behind the next bush prepared to pounce.

The real science, however, was available to those willing to put forth the effort to read and understand. While many were content to to mimic media mantras as a myna bird would, those of us unconvinced by the authorities searched out studies. Though the WHO in 2019 published a study about using non-pharmaceutical methods to combat pandemic respiratory viruses, and in it came to the conclusion, from an analysis of decades of randomized controlled trials, that mask use has no impact on the transmission of a respiratory virus, the experts™ still chose to push their use, and many in government mandated them. People who refused to block their breathing were labeled “grandma-killer.” Of course, most now know that masks do not help, so those still wearing them are minimal; and at this point, these have no excuse. The same has been seen with the shots: clinical testing was never complete, they were rushed into production, and they were forced into widespread public use. Those who doubted the effectiveness or safety were cajoled. Vaccine-hesitant was coined as an aspersion for those who questioned. Others protested, “It’s not just for you, it’s to protect others. You have to be heartless to not take it!” Many even claimed those who refused the shots should be refused medical treatment, and some even went so far as to wish death upon the unjabbed. Now, we have come to find out that whether the shots could prevent transmission was never even tested (though Peter Doshi made this clear in an issue of the BMJ in Oct. of 2020 - https://doi.org/10.1136/bmj.m4037 ). Today, people are dropping like flies, and the experts™ claim there is no explanation, because imagine if the shots that Biden and the health authorities wanted to mandate, and for which they granted the pharmaceutical companies immunity from liability, are the cause of death. Again, the cause/effect relationship here is clear to many, but there are a great multitude who refuse to accept the clear evidence, including the experts™:

Finally, we have the experts™ themselves. Most of them refuse to refute the narrative. This is where the danger lies. Because of the fear-mongering foisted upon the country by the experts™ and the media, those in American government went on a never-before-seen power trip, mandating a multitude of unconstitutional requisites, and engaged in exercising authority that does not belong to them. This must never again be allowed. This is why there must be consequences.

There is so much more that could be said, and others have already done so. As I stated from the outset, I wanted to keep this brief. For those who were simply deceived but went about their business, forgiveness is certainly in order, and empathy as well. To those who remained in the dark because they refused to open their eyes, perhaps forgiveness may be offered, but the way they behaved toward those who remained awake must not be forgotten. Amnesty must not be offered to any, least of all those in government and those who knew better but continued to cave to the con, such as the author of the article in question. These people must face dire consequences for their collusion in the chicanery, lest they repeat the ruse.
