Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. - First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
With reactions to Elon Musk threatening to figuratively burn it all down by publicly releasing documents regarding Twitter’s suppression of free speech, one might think the world is coming to an end. All the cries to boycott companies that won’t stop advertising on Twitter. Total meltdowns over people being able to “speak freely.” Tantrums by celebrities about “hate” and “white supremacy.” The media has gone silent on the Ukraine war, which means Musk is now more evil than Putin! Even the White House is getting in on the action: https://www.foxnews.com/video/6316275574112 .
The problem for the leftist masses is that their echo chamber is collapsing. Now their presence on Twitter risks exposure to…gasp…alternate ideas. Oh the horror!!! “Anything that disagrees with what we think is misinformation!!!” Well, it’s time for people to put on their big boy, or big girl (sorry folks…there are only two sexes/genders), underpants. This is how we have conversations, dialogues, debates. This is how ideas are exchanged. This is how people learn and grow. Questioning and discussing thoughts with others who may not agree - what a novel concept. Unfortunately, most of those who have been isolated in the blue-check bubble for the past two years have never had to suffer actually hearing the observations and opinions of others because they’ve been protected by their parents, their safe spaces on college campuses, and, of course, the fact-checkers. They only subject themselves to the main stream media, because they never lie and have no agenda, right?
So much for freedom of the press, eh?
This brings us to the next issue, though it’s not an issue for the masses - it’s an issue for mass media, and the government. Without being able to fact check misinformation on social media platforms like Twitter, it is difficult to control the narrative. After all, if you already have all of the MSM outlets operating as an organ of the state, one need only constrain social media so that the official “truth” is maintained across all platforms. Pravda would be envious. That is a problem though, isn’t it? This isn’t 1919 Soviet Russia. In the United States, the government is forbidden by the Constitution and other federal legislation from controlling or “abridging” individual speech or the press, even through other corporations. This is the biggest issue.
As seen in the video of Karine Jean-Pierre linked above, the government is “monitoring” Twitter because they have concerns about “hate” and “misinformation.” The proles are not capable of high enough thought to determine for themselves what is real or fake “news.” Never mind that it is the government and their apparatchiks in the main stream media that have been spreading so-called “misinformation,” and hate for anything America, for the past two years (and more). Perish the thought that the government has been directing these corporations to censor information that they deem unacceptable or that would be damaging to those under their protection (President Biden, Hunter Biden, Anthony Fauci, and a whole host of others). Apple and Google are threatening to remove the Twitter app from their app stores a la Parler (good thing Twitter’s web interface works very well). Is this under duress? Could this be at the government’s behest? Ignore the man behind the curtain! These are not the droids you’re looking for. Ah, but Elon…
Elon now threatens to publicly expose the operation! Julius and Ethel Rosenberg did less damage to the United States government than the inimitable Mr. Musk stands to if he releases documents showing government pressured Twitter to censor free speech. Such revelation as suppressing the Hunter Biden laptop story, or anything Covid-related, in keeping with government requests/orders would bring the walls crashing down. We could see uncovered explicit evidence of direct violations of the Constitution. Those responsible may, if justice is actually served, face very stiff penalties - loss of office, inability to serve in any capacity within the government, perhaps jail time; all of these are possible. Unfortunately, if justice is served, which in today’s climate I find highly unlikely, it will most certainly not be the people at the top who face it; they will find, and likely have lined up already, scapegoats. Such interference in the free speech of the American people is treason of the highest order.
There is plenty of worry going around the left-o-sphere at the moment, and clearly with good reason. Yes, the rabble may be resentful, and even the media may be maddened; but those in government have the most to fear. They treat the Constitution like toilet paper stuck to the bottom of their shoe as they exit the public restroom, and now someone is pointing it out in public. If Musk moves forward as he claims he will, these government ne’er-do-wells, along with their devoted followers, may actually see their world crumble around them.
It took me a few years to truly understand the lesson about THE truth. I was taught that there is MY version of the story on one hand and the other person's version on the other hand and SOMEWHERE in the middle is THE THRUTH.
We have stopped being taught how to think and to figure out for ourselves what THE truth is.
There is no MY truth or YOUR truth, only THE TRUTH. We have to stop listening to the chatterboxes driving the wedge of division between us so we can find common ground and to get rid of the EXTREMISTS from both sides that are as full of stuffing as a Thanksgiving turkey (as my grandmother would have said).
There are zealots on BOTH sides of the spectrum pushing narratives that are so outrageous that the there can never be any sort of peace. The saddest part today is those zealots seem to get the most airtime be that on msm or social networks. I guarantee there are more of us that are in the middle and want to live and letblive than there are those on the fringe.
