This ignorance of the founding documents is, in my opinion, by design. The government run education system has been gradually deleting constitutional education and civics. Ask a high school student today. Ask them how much they actually learn about the constitution and how the government is really designed to work. They will look at you like a puppy who hears a funny noise, slight head tilt included. This creates an uneducated, ignorant populous who is told how things work by representatives who quickly become addicted to personal greed and a lust for political power. I repeat- this is by design. We only know this because we see what’s happening, because we were taught about Madison and Jefferson. That is out the window. Gradually. Like boiling a frog by gradually raising the water temperature. It does not realize it is in danger until it is too late. That’s where we are as a nation, gradually boiling and not realizing we are in trouble…until it is too late…
The problem that we have with any structure of government is that we tend to think of citizens as having common goals and unification in morals, values, and ethics. In all great societies and empires, this held true for a length of time until avarice and just of power became greater than the good of the society.
Judging by historical cycles, if we fail to get a grip on our Nation, we're going to lose it. And, in spectacular fashion.
One of my most vigorous arguments on communism/socialism is that there is always a hierarchy regardless of how large or small the population. People always want to be next to those in charge so that they can also cash in on the best of the harvest, the better shares of meat, the most snug housing......the list goes on.
I love it when these socialism loving leftists get confronted with these facts they claim these other countries that turn to socialism just aren't doing it "right." Like there IS an "RIGHT" way to do socialism.
An ignorant population is one that can be easily controlled. They cut the civics and US history classes in my school system in the early to mid 80's. The replaced those classes with "Social Studies" which I always thought was a crock of crap. I was blessed to have friends and family who were willing and able to teach me the things they stopped teaching in the schools. For that I am eternally grateful.
And then there is the Oxymorons of umpteen “People’s Democratic Republic of (Kekistan et al.)” namely the People’s People-ruled People’s thing of such and such people!” which are the furthest removed from any type of popular control.
I also was surprised to hear Biden bring up the notion of republic and quote Franklin. Maybe it was to try and lessen the blow to democracy (their cherished holy grail) which his anointing of Kamala represented.
The country ( as Franklin clearly foresaw) has been struggling against the forces of democracy from the very beginning. Don’t forget the 17th amendment - clearly tipping the balance of powers towards democracy and away from state’s rights (originally only the House of Representatives was supposed to be democratically elected). That combined with the autocratic nature of an ever more powerful Executive Branch has made for a toxic mix which no election can fix.
I have posted this previously, but find it prudent to remind myself just what I believe, why I believe, and what we are, or at least should be, fighting for.
If I may be so bold, the foundation of the Constitution of the United States of America is, was, and ever more shall be the idea of self-governance. The idea that this vast swath of people that constitute "We the People," can and should be a self-determinate electorate, giving the Federal government a very limited and specific role in our society has been usurped to a degree that it will take 2-3 generations at best to reset this nation's founding, if ever it were possible. The best we can hope for, In My Most Humble Opinion, is to stop the bleeding and stem the tide of totalitarianism either side seeks to impose upon "We the People," not simply at the discretion of the chosen parties, but at the behest of our fellow citizens working against our own best interests. People, it seems, have a need to be told what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. And who does it better than "We the People?" Politicians and embedded mega corporations are the "best and brightest" among us, and as such, they are our chosen, sometimes elected, sometimes appointed, representatives, until they aren't! And then we're infected by a bloated administrative state that devours everything it comes in contact with!

What an excellent discussion........

You touched on something else I plan to write on, but I'd rather not provide a spoiler just yet.

*lust for power......NOT "just"

Good catch there on the 17th. I rail about that one quite often.
