And that is my point. The president signing a bill into law (or even at the state level) and it being recorded in a book does not stop someone from committing a crime - it just makes some act or action a crime. Any law, whether intended to outlaw something heinous or fairly innocuous has no power other than on the conscience of the person who knows the law. If a person is determined to break a law, no written words in a book will stop that person. This is why, despite all our laws, we still have drunk driving, jaywalking, speeding, rape, murder, theft, breaking and entry, assault and battery, etc. There are laws against all of these, but the person who is going to violate such laws will not stop to think, "hey, there's a law against this - maybe I shouldn't do it."
The idea that you can legislate morality is absolutely ABSURD. The idea that punishing the innocent for the actions of the guilty is just as if not more absurd. The idea that ONE MORE LAW is going to stop someone from commiting the crime is beyond idiotic. MURDER is already a crime that is punishable with DEATH in a large number of states and other countries. (And methods of putting people to death in other countries is nowhere near as "humane" as what is done in the US.)
One of the things about the Georgia shooting is they are actually charging the FATHER of the shooter with a variety of things including multiple counts of manslaughter. The man wasn't there, and he did NOT actually GIVE the guns to the kid to commit this heinous crime. The charges against this father are RIDICULOUS. I pray those higher up in the courts do the right thing and throw those charges OUT.
It is horrible that these evil things happen, and I am saddened by the loss of life. BUT, I am NOT going to hold anyone other than the person that committed the crime accountable.
"Whenever tragedy strikes, a call rises from the masses for Congress to “do something.”
And therein lies the problem. Let's seek out more government intrusion into the lives of the individual instead of communities coming together to solve these "crisis" themselves through the wisdom of the ages, and yes, that includes the wisdom found in Scripture.
There is always a cure for what ails society, the problem is, most would rather have the nanny take care of the crying infant than to get up themselves and feed the starving child!
The quote from Atlas Shrugged perfectly analogizes what the government is doing. No matter how many times I have this conversation with some people and explain, in layman’s terms, what these calls for new laws do and do not accomplish, they always revert back to the lines they are being fed by left wing politicians and corporate media. “The guns are the problem!”
Really? I always end a conversation with this- there are well over 350 million guns in this country. Guns are not the problem. It takes a person to pull the trigger. A person who has made a conscious decision to commit a crime. If I put any gun on the table and leave it there amongst us while we sit here, is that gun going to pull its own trigger and kill us all? No? Do you not understand how ridiculous it sounds by saying a gun is the problem? We don’t have a gun problem. We have a morality problem. We have a mental heath crisis. By allowing children to act out or to feed them drugs to make them concentrate or hormones to allow them to “feel good about themselves”, that is the problem. Every time. Either it’s a loner who is socially awkward or a kid who’s been eating hormone therapy pills. If the guns were the problem, with far more guns than people in this country, why are we still here? Why aren’t there thousands, if not millions of gun murders a day? Answer those questions and I might start to actually have a conversation about “the guns”. Until then, it’s just noise, bullshit being consumed by the mushrooms in the dark.
I try not to do it often because it puts a damper on the gathering. But hey, I’m not going to sit there and allow some mushroom, even if they’re my friend, to spew radical far left anti gun rhetoric not based in fact or reality without challenging them.
I followed the comments and found a good meme in the thread on X that Chad posted. It perfectly illustrates gun laws in our country today and where they are headed. Can’t seem to insert it here, but it’s two boxes, one of “citizens” and one of “criminals”. The citizen box is full and the criminal box is empty meaning when the call to confiscate happens, the only guns the govt will have is those confiscated from citizens. Only law abiding citizens follow laws, even illegal and tyrannical ones. Not criminals. Seems so simple when we see it like that. But the constant propaganda gushing from the idiot boxes in our pockets and in our homes will continue to feed bullshit to the mushrooms to keep them plentiful.
More laws are not going to help. A criminal committed a heinous crime. Creating more laws wouldn't stop this type of problem.
More laws just create more tyranny.

Steve Inman, a guy who posts some very funny video commentary on X, shared a short video that exmplifies the concept: https://x.com/SteveInmanUIC/status/1832608673702531131
Yes, you spelled it out well. Yet others seem incapable of understanding this concept.
Good video!
