Chad as stated we are no longer one nation and certainly not under God. This nation will not right itself without another revolution

Hi Chad. You make some good points. The U.S. was indeed founded on the ideas of liberty and justice, but as you point out, it's kinda gone to shit, thanks to our out-of-control government.

"Patriotism" is subject to interpretation. Am I patriotic? Well, I love this land. I love my people, and I love our culture and heritage. But one thing I certainly do NOT love is the government. I DESPISE the government. Does this make me un-patriotic? And along those lines, what does the flag stand for: the land, the people, the government, or what? It's kinda vague.

Which brings me around to the opening phrase of the POL (which you did not address): "I pledge allegiance". What exactly am I pledging allegiance to? If it's the GOVERNMENT, count me out.

Here's my preferred re-write of the POL:

"I pledge allegiance to David Woods, who lives in the United States of America, not the government that stands. The original idea was: one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, but the government ruined that.

I believe it is a pledge to one another, to the values represented in the elements of the flag, to the ideals on which this country was founded, not to the government. The government isn't the Republic for which the flag stands - the people are.

I personally do not believe the sentiment of the Pledge of Allegiance is obsolete. People are disconnected from the TRUE history behind the Pledge, our flag, and the founding of our country. That disconnect from history has been coupled with the alienation of God in our society as a whole. People have taken to an idea that the Constitution or Bill of Rights says something about freedom FROM religion and there is supposed to be NO involvement of God in our government AT ALL. Of course we know that couldn't be farther from the truth. I agree with Michael Grace's statement that this nation will not be righted without another revolution. I don't know if it will look like the last or even our "civil war", it may come about without a single shot being fired. There are so many conservatives in middle-America that are ready to let the blue cluster-F--- areas fend for themselves and to just split the country. Those heavy democrat blue areas are free to do whatever they want to do, just do it under their OWN system of government. And the REST of the country (which is a vast majority of it) will do the same.

Once God is brought back into the picture, the depth of meaning behind the Pledge will come back. I am confident of that.
