A "shut down" would be welcome. Followed by a wake up call of "we need to slash spending dramatically".

That was my opinion. Frankly, I think the Republicans should have let it shut down back in November.

Unfortunately, most Americans do not understand the limited nature of the federal government the founders sought to create and instead want a government that "runs the country." That was never the intent, and the founders would never have had it so due to the cost. The more in which the federal government is involved, the more it costs the people, and the less that gets done, because having a large, powerful, central government is inefficient and ineffective.

The U.S. was supposed to be like pre-EU Europe, except with a central government that acted as a forward-facing proxy for the independent states and that would handle a unified defense for those states. That is, in part, why the U.S. was so successful for so long. If we look at the short time the EU has been in existence, we can see how that "strong central government" has led to the rapid decline of a once fairly-successful continent. The same is happening in the U.S.; it's just taking longer because the people haven't yet ceded *all* power to the central government.

Keep in mind that people have been lead down that path t thinking an end all-be all central government was the way it was intended. Government became excessively involved in education and subjects like CIVICS and AMERICAN HISTORY (un altered to fit a narrative) were chopped from the curriculum across the country. This gave the puppet masters pull all the strings they wanted and needed to gain even more control and power.

I remember hearing stories of Soviet agents being trained to infiltrate our society and government to slowly introduce more and more socialist ideas into public policy and opinion. There is a massive number of American born people who have drank that Kool-Aid. The war for conversion to communism is a war of attrition. The disease of socialist ideology has infected our country to an extreme now. The pace for switching to a socialist form of government has picked up the pace over the last 10-15 years. People have been convinced that a giant central government is the answer to all of their woes. That a large central government would take care of all their basic needs, and then some. All that was required of them was to surrender 'just a tiny bit' of their individual freedom in exchange.

Benjamin Franklin once said: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

People have been lead down the path blindly to believe that if they give up a certain amount of liberty they will gain a larger amount of safety. WE know this is a LIE told by those who seek power and control. I don't know how many different ways or times it needs to be said that it is a delusional idea, but it must be said until everyone wakes up to the TRUTH.

With all the teeth gnashing and pearl clutching, they are well aware that they (Dems) would suffer. In spite of media protection, the republicans are doing a much better job in public relations, as far as calling out the BS. What chucky cheese did is nothing more than political expediency. It’s not about anything other than remaining in power.

They call for a "shut down" every year, that I know of since 1981, when I was in the service.
